What is Visible Mending?

Do you have a favorite shirt that somehow now displays a reminder of the time someone bumped into you when you were having that favorite cup of coffee? or perhaps that perfect sweater was torn or snagged on a rough surface?   There is way to make it wearable again for other times than cleaning the house, and in the process explore your creativity with a design element that will make the garment unique as you are.

Whether you have never sewn a stitch or are an experienced seamstress, we invite you to join us for a community gathering  to discover the enjoyment of renewing any garment.  Repair and renew are the two words you need to remember. California has just passed a law that all apparel and textile producers must implement this process into their production.  Visible mending does not try to hide the repair. Instead, the mend adds a touch of art to the garment.  We will offer guidance and suggestions for how to make a few stitches that create a design on that rip, snag or stain.  Patches, embroidery, trims are all ways of achieving a pretty end result.  We will have thread, trims, buttons, and other supplies on hand.  Just bring your garment. Come to create and socialize with others. If you don’t have garment you want to renew, or if you prefer to try a technique first, there will be fabric available.
